Well it’s bad news for Banff National Park, but good news if you’ve been looking for some work as employers in the area announce a serious shortage of workers in the hospitality sector. According to GlobalNews.ca, Trevor Long, a general manager of the Rimrock Hotel told Global, “We always focus on hiring Canadians as much as we possibly can,” but Canadians don’t always stay for more than a few months and hotels are struggling to fill the major staffing shortage experienced all year round. With the federal government making rules around the ‘temporary foreign worker’ program even more strict, bringing people over to fill vacant jobs has become even more difficult. The Rimrock says it has been waiting eight months just to get approval to hire 20 foreign workers, with each application having a $1,000 fee.
