A big battle has been won today for cannabis users in the United States, after a historical vote was made by a congressional committee. According to Marijuana Moment, for the first time in history the House Judiciary Committee has passed the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act in a vote on Wednesday, which went 24-10. One part of the debate saw the Republican lawmakers voice their concern that the bill was being made to hastily, while the Democrats claimed that enough time was spent and that it was past time to start reversing the decades of harmful effects caused by enforcing the plants prohibition. “Those steps are long overdue,” declared New York’s Democratic Chairman Jerrold Nadler. “For far too long we’ve treated marijuana as a criminal justice problem instead of a matter of personal choice and public health.” This bill will not only help those who have been wrongfully effected by the criminalization of marijuana, but will also open doors and provide new opportunities for those looking to be a part of this new and fast-growing industry.
