International Student Facing Deportation For Working Too Many Hours

In a world steadily looking to make life easier with new inventions and technology, one man is facing deportation for what his lawyer is calling, “working too hard.” Jobandeep Sandhu, was an international student from Punjab, India working as a truck driver to pay for his education here in Canada when he was arrested on December 13, 2017. The arrest took place on the side of the 401 Highway while the student was driving a commercial vehicle from Montreal to Toronto. Sandhu, who was 22, had been pulled over by an Ontario Provincial Police for what was reported to be a “routine traffic stop,” but was arrested shortly after and placed in the back off the squad car. Jobandeep was believed to have violated the amount of hours he could legally work while in Canada and a statement was issued by OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson saying, “We routinely consult with the Canada Border Services Agency when an incident involves aspects that fall under its mandate.” CBSA has told Sandu that if the IRCC does not accept his temporary resident permit, the college exchange student has until no later than May 31 to return to India.
