The ‘black face’ Prime minister Justin Trudeau, has now decided to try and challenge the compensation in which First Nations children receive, based on their current situation with the on-reserve child welfare system. According to CBC news, the Attorney General of Canada filed with the Federal Court today, an application for a judicial review and a stay of the ruling for the already under funded assistance. On September 6 the federal government was forced by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal to pay the maximum of $40,000 to each child taken from their homes under the on-reserve child welfare system from Jan 1, 2006 to a date that will be decided by the tribunal. This ruling will also affect some of the parents and grandparents of the apprehended children, a decision that could cost Ottawa and the federal government billions of dollars. When asked about the matter, Justin claimed that he is not challenging the awarded compensation. “We need to compensate those who’ve been harmed, but the question is how to do that,” Trudeau told press on Friday. “We need to have conversations with communities, with leaders to make sure we’re getting that compensation right. Those are conversations that we cannot have during a writ period.” The Prime minister’s words sound nice, but people are asking why then is he and his government calling for an order to set aside the tribunal’s decision and dismissing the claim for monetary compensation?
