After seeing the 25th-year anniversary of not only Hip Hop’s but also one of music’s greatest albums ever recorded, the creator of ILLMATIC himself, says he is done celebrating it. According to Complex, it was during an interview with Haute Living that rapper Nas said it was “corny” to keep praising something that happened over two decades ago. “Twenty-five years is a lifetime. So I did another symphony orchestra show for ILLMATIC this year; I got another plaque for it,” Nasir told the interviewer. “I’m very grateful – it’s so long – to celebrate one album over all else is corny to me. I don’t want to celebrate another ILLMATIC anything. I’m done. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for appreciating the record, but it’s over.” The Crown Heights, Brooklyn born rapper did however prefer people to focus on his magnitude of investments and current business ventures saying, “Maybe I’ll open a new level bookstore, maybe I’ll do Broadway,” adding “I do three things at a time, that’s how I live. The next three things I do, I hope they’re more exciting than anything that I’ve ever done.” Maybe the Nastradamus is right to move on to new beginnings, or maybe he is bitter that all his best works of art were done in the 90’s…. I mean we did go from classics like ILLMATIC and It Was Written, to albums such as God’s Son and Life Is Good in the 2000’s. Either way ILLMATIC is one of the most revered albums of all time to all the real fans of Hip Hop.
