Once again, the late great Nipsey Hussle’s name continues to be celebrated, except this time he continues the marathon by posthumously winning the award for Best Male Hip Hop Artist during the 2019 BET Awards, which took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California. According to XXL, Nipsey’s win comes just one year after he released Victory Lap, his major label debut album. A tribute performance was done in honour of Nipsey, by artists DJ Khaled, John Legend and YG, three different artists who Nip had done collaborations with while still living. Neighborhood Nipsey was also given the BET Humanitarian Award for all of his work done in the communities and for his ideologies on having a self-sufficient black community. Nipsey’s friend and fellow rapper T.I. had some words to say about his late friend’s legacy right before the tribute began. “There will never be another Nipsey Hussle,” the Atlanta rapper said. “He was a revolutionary…He inspired people across the world; many are still discovering how legendary he really was,” Tip finished before then presenting the Humanitarian Award to Nipsey Hussle’s family.
