With an ongoing crisis in opioid related deaths in North America, Ontario Police officers are starting to raise the question of whether or not drug dealers should be charged with manslaughter on top of trafficking if a customer dies off their product. One case is causing a stir in particular when back in in 2017, a person who sold cocaine laced with fentanyl to someone was charged with manslaughter among other charges after the person who purchased the drug died of an overdose. With so many harmful products already legally available like tobacco and alcohol, (both proven responsible for the death of thousands) is it fair that drug dealers should be treated differently than owners of these companies or do we have the responsibility as consumers to make smart decisions on what we buy?
