The U.S. takes another step towards a marijuana legal country. After legalizing low-level cannabis possession and home cultivation back in 2018, a new vote has been taken by the House Committee on Government Operations that went 11-0 in favour of legalizing cannabis sales. According to Marijuana Moment, an email was sent out from Michele Childs of the House legislative council, stating that the panel will have a “discussion of taxes and fees.” Marijuana Moment also claims they spoke with New England political director Matt Childs, who told them “Vermonters are more than ready to see the advent of regulated cannabis sales in their state, and this is an encouraging sign that Vermont’s elected officials are ready to move forward on the issue.” This new legislation will allow business to legally sell cannabis as long as they pay a sales tax, which will be going to substance misuse treatment programs.
